Raphaël Perron-Constant lives and works in Canada (Québec).
Raphaël is from the Laurentides, in the countryside of Québec.
As a child, he found refuge and inspiration in the quietude of his surroundings. Spending most of his time immersed in the solitude of his bedroom, he discovered a profound interest in visual arts. From his young age, drawing, reading, and painting became his companions, offering a means of expression in a world that often felt too overwhelming.
With time, he learnt to delve into his emotions. Themes of nature, love, sexuality, pain, sorrow, rejection, and solitude found their way onto his canvases. They mirror some of the parts of the world he finds most interesting.
As he matured, so did his artistic style. It was in abstract art that he found a true connection, drawn to its capacity to transcend the confines of objectivity and invite interpretation. For him, abstract art is also a language through which he can communicate the complexity of his feelings without restraint or fear of interrogation.
About his work
Raphaël's paintings frequently incorporate shapes that represent various body parts. In some paintings, people are easily recognizable, while in others, circles and lines abstractly convey facial features and expressions. Individuals can be seen having intercourse, holding hands, or fighting.
He is drawn to minimalism and prefers to paint exclusively in black and white to commit to monochrome art. Despite the limited colour palette, he finds that monochrome art can have a powerful impact on the viewer and evoke just as many emotions and sensations.
To imbue his paintings with texture and dimensionality, he uses a diverse array of mediums: oil pastels, China ink, sprayed acrylic graffiti paint, liquid acrylic paint, as well as conventional acrylic and oil paint.
