EMMA SOPHIE BÆRENTZEN (SOMMA)

Lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
She works in the direction of surrealism, using predominantly bright colors centered around women.
She draws and creates art based on her feelings and experiences. She has a visual way of thinking. So, her feelings often manifest themselves in very vivid images, and she tries to bring these images to life through painting. This is a way to understand the feelings, experiences and periods of the artist’s life, as well as why she began to paint in the first place.
For example, her painting “Barely” is an image that the artist often sees in her mind during times when life may seem difficult. “Barely” is also part of the “A Void” collection, which attempts to portray poor mental health. Namely loneliness, depression and stress.
At the same time, she creates art based on society and her view of the world. Often with an emphasis on women. It's a way for her to ask questions and be interested in the world we live in. She tries to do just that with her TEMA poster collection. This collection is trying to express two things: feeling out of place, and everyone can see it - as if it screams out of you that you don't belong. At the same time, the collection expresses the ability to be completely yourself, to be yourself. You don't force yourself into a box to meet all of society's expectations - to break out of norms and traditions. These two opposing feelings reflect the journey she took while working on this collection of posters, where the artist began painting them during a difficult period and finished them later, after several years of hiatus, with new self-confidence.
